Conservation Day

Press Release 26th March 2007

 Final Conservation Day,

But There’s More in Store!

On Sunday 11th March the final conservation project day of the current programme took place at Mareham Pastures Local Nature Reserve.  Volunteers checked and replaced failed trees from last year’s tree planting and dug drainage trenches to reduce the flooding on parts of the path.

Zoë Watson, Secretary of the Friends of Mareham said:  ‘Today’s conservation activity was attended by a wide variety of people; including our regular volunteers, members of the Friends group and a few families too.’

Matthew Davey, Lincolnshire County Council’s Environmental and Community Project Officer added:  ‘We have had to replace very few trees; it is really encouraging that they are doing so well.  We have also tried to improve drainage on the path, as we have received a few complaints that in very wet weather the path is under water in some places.’

Zoë Watson also said:  ‘Although this is the last Conservation Volunteer Activity to be held at Mareham Pastures until October, we have other events planned in the meantime
