Open Day & Market Towns Award
|
The Friends of Mareham Pastures Local Nature Reserve have
again been recognised for their work
by
winning the East Midlands Action For Market Towns regional
award for Environment and Culture. The award was
presented by Melanie Fischer representing the East Midlands
Development Agency & East Midlands Rural Affairs
Forum during a Community Event being held at the Local
Nature Reserve on Saturday.
Those attending the Community Event held at Mareham
Pastures on Saturday afternoon enjoyed excellent weather and
a good variety of demonstration and information stands, many
offering activities for children.
Centre stage was Impact Martial Arts and Boxing Gym,
providing excellent martial arts displays throughout the
event. The St Johns Ambulance First Aid had brought one of
their ambulances on site and demonstrations of the sirens
were very popular with the children. Sleaford Cubs,
Lincolnshire Youth Service and Wildlife Watch provided
activities for children, including badge making, blow kites
& bug hunting.
Other organisations that were represented on the day
included: South Lincs Riding Club, Sleaford Lions, NKCVS,
Pets As Therapy, Civic Trust, Sleaford in Bloom, Sleaford
Army Cadets & the Friends of Mareham Pastures.’
Zoë Watson, secretary of Friends of Mareham Pastures said:
‘Even though not as many people have attended this event as
we might have hoped those who were here had an enjoyable
afternoon. We hope to organise a similar event every year
and hopefully it will be bigger and better every time.’
