Press Release 12th March 2006

Traditional Hedge Laying - Wayne Kenward

 Last Conservation Volunteer Day

– Until September That Is!

On Sunday 12th March the last in the current programme of conservation project days took place at Mareham Pastures Local Nature Reserve; a general tidy up took place and few more metres of hedge were laid. The programme has been running monthly conservation days since October last year.

Zoë Watson, Secretary of the Friends of Mareham Pastures said: ‘So much has been achieved during this programme, including the planting of 1500 trees and shrubs; a large section of perimeter hedge has been laid; new fencing has been erected & a bark chipping path has been made through evergreen wood.

Matthew Davey, Lincolnshire County Council’s Environmental and Community Project Officer said: ‘All the work that has been carried out at Mareham Pastures has been done by volunteers. The project has been well supported by both individuals and groups from the local community. The Rotary Club of Sleaford, Sleaford Detachment Army Cadets and Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme Volunteers have all played a significant role in the progress that has been made since October’.

Zoë Watson added that: ‘It has been great to see volunteers of all ages getting involved and at least 500 volunteer hours have been provided by local people since October, which has made a massive impact on the development of the Local Nature Reserve.'
