Rotary Club Bench Marks 50 Years!
|
The Friends of Mareham Pastures have been presented with a stone seat to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Sleaford. On 18th October 2006, Rotarians David Leech, 50th president of the Rotary Club of Sleaford (2005-2006) and Maggie Carr, Tasker Builders officially handed the Rotary Club bench to Zoë Watson, Secretary of the Friends of Mareham Pastures accompanied by her son Billy, who said the bench is very comfortable! The recently completed stone bench was build by Tasker Builders and paid for by an anonymous donation from a member of the Rotary Club of Sleaford.
Zoë Watson, Secretary of the Friends of Mareham Pastures said: ‘The Rotary Club of Sleaford has made an excellent contribution to the development of Mareham Pastures. Not only by providing the Local Nature Reserve with this very substantial seat, but last year members of the Rotary Club planted at least 100 trees to mark the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Club in 2005 and another 50 plus trees were planted earlier this year to mark the 50th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Sleaford.’
Zoë added: ‘The success of Mareham Pastures is due mainly to the contributions made by members of the local community. This includes groups such as the Rotary Club, Sleaford Cubs, the Army Cadets, the Eastgate Horticulturalists and our conservation volunteers; who all play very different, but equally as important roles.’
If any groups or individuals would like to know how to become involved in conservation work at Mareham Pastures, please contact Zoë Watson. Over the winter there will be a conservation activity at Mareham Pastures on the second Sunday of each month from November 2006 through to March 2007. Everyone is very welcome to come along to these events, experience is not necessary. The events start at 10am and finish around 3pm. However volunteers do not have to commit themselves to an entire day. If you are interested, but can only spare an hour or so on please come along, find us on site and have a go. Children are also welcome, but those under 14 years must attend with a responsible adult.
