News 2005

Press Release 11th December 2005

Volunteers take a well earned break!

William Finely (14), Henry Cutten (14), Tom Batsford (14) & Gerry Flynn (14)

Amongst the volunteers at last Sunday’s conservation project day at Mareham Pastures was a group of four young people working towards their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Matthew Davey, Lincolnshire County Council’s Environmental and Community Project Officer said: ‘The Conservation Volunteer Programme provides an excellent opportunity for people of all ages to learn some practical conservation skills.

Zoë Watson, Secretary of the Friends of Mareham Pastures added: ‘Today has been very successful and hopefully our next conservation activity day will be as well attended; when we will be planting a new woodland in January.

The Mareham Pastures Conservation Volunteer Programme aims to provide the opportunity for anyone to get some hands-on experience of conservation work, whatever their previous experience. Each project will be lead by Matthew Davey, Lincolnshire County Council’s Environmental and Community Project Officer. Full training, safety briefing, first aid, insurance cover, tea or coffee and biscuits will be provided. All we ask is that volunteers wear suitable outdoor clothes and stout shoes and bring a packed lunch.
