Conservation Volunteer Programme |
Have you ever considered becoming a conservation
volunteer, but don’t know where to start? Now there is an
opportunity right on your doorstep! The Mareham Pastures
Conservation Volunteer Programme provides the opportunity
for anyone to get some hands-on experience of conservation
work.
Sunday 9th October marks the first of six conservation
project days taking place at the local nature reserve
between October 2005 and March 2006. The first project will
be the construction of Lincolnshire style boundary fencing.
Matthew Davey, Lincolnshire County Council’s Environmental
and Community Project Officer said: ‘the idea of the Mareham
Pastures Conservation Volunteer Programme is to encourage
local residents to help maintain and improve the Local
Nature Reserve.’
Subsequent projects will be: Traditional hedge laying on
13th November & 11th December 2005; planting new woodland on
8th January & 12th February 2006 and path clearance on 12th
March 2006. More information is available on our
website:www.marehampastures.co.uk
Volunteers will meet on the second Sunday of every month at
the Lavender Close entrance, starting at 10am till 3pm
depending on the weather. Each project will be lead by
Matthew Davey, Lincolnshire County Council’s Environmental
and Community Project Officer. Full training, safety
briefing, first aid, insurance cover, tea or coffee and
biscuits will be provided. All we ask is that volunteers
wear suitable outdoor clothes and stout shoes and bring a
packed lunch.
