 Mareham Pastures’ Litter Wardens

Mareham Pastures’ own dedicated team of Litter Wardens carried out their first official duties on the morning of July 6th. Becoming Litter Wardens for Mareham Pastures Local Nature Reserve is latest project to be taken on by the Workskills Group based at the Eastgate Horticultural Unit, Sleaford. Matthew Davey, Local Nature Reserves Officer, Lincolnshire County Council said: ‘Our new Litter Wardens are one of the most enthusiastic and cheerful groups of volunteers I have had the pleasure of working with and they have done an excellent job today too!

The group also carry out litter picking for the Woodland Trust at Sleaford Wood and offer a gardening service to the people of Sleaford at the very competitive rate of £5 per hour. The purpose of the Workskills group is to provide people with learning disabilities in the Sleaford area with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and NVQ standard horticultural training with a view to gaining full or part-time employment. The group are always looking for local employers who would be able to provide work experience placements. For more information about the gardening service, or if your company could offer a work experience placement, please contact Ingrid Lyon on 01529 302741 at the Eastgate Horticultural Unit.

Zoë Watson, Secretary of the Friends of Mareham Pastures said: ‘It is great to see more members of the community getting involved. Mareham Pastures is looking really good this summer as the recently planted trees are growing well and now the litter has gone it is looking even better!’
