Zoë's getting everyone involved in the pastures - Sleaford Standard
|
A VOLUNTEER from Sleaford has helped to get the
community involved with managing and improving a new nature
reserve. Zoë Watson of Sleaford has been working hard
since being made secretary of the Friends of Mareham
Pastures.
The group is working in conjunction with Lincolnshire County
Council to help develop the nature reserve on Mareham Lane
which was a former landfill site. Zoë said: "I
volunteered to be secretary after going to a a consultation
meeting about the reserve in November. I had a bit of spare
time on my hands and I needed something to keep my brain
occupied." Her job includes involving local groups and
schools with the nature reserve, circulating minutes among
the group, distributing leaflets and doing PR for the
project. She said: "I enjoy what I do and I am up there
most days walking my dog."
Matthew Davey, County Council Local Nature reserve officer
is pleased with Zoë's work. He said: "The work that Zoë
does is amazing. She has organised community tree planting
events, contacted local schools and organisations to get
them involved and she does all the things I cannot do. We
want to get people involved as it is a local community
nature reserve for the people of Sleaford and Zoë helps us
to achieve that because she is a local person."
A website is currently being formed which will include a
record of all past and future events at the Pastures.
