ONE DOWN ... 799 to go! Planting trees at Mareham
Pastures Local Nature Reserve ... On Sunday 13th February,
local volunteers braved near gale force winds and planted
more than 800 trees at Mareham Pastures Local Nature
Reserve. A former landfill site situated between Mareham
Lane and Southfields residential development, Sleaford.
Zoë Watson, Secretary of the Friends of Mareham Pastures
said: ‘it is excellent to see how quickly this site has
progressed over the past year, thanks to the commitment of
local volunteers. In addition is it wonderful to see younger
members of the community getting involved in this project’.
The whole site is being transformed into a Local Nature
Reserve, which will be an ideal haven for wildlife and a
pleasant place for people to enjoy. Recently a hard path has
been laid making this site more accessible to visitors.
Eventually there will be new areas of woodland, wildflower
meadows and information boards. Much of the work is being
undertaken by the local community, who have also provided
many of the ideas
