Cadets create a wildlife haven - Sleaford Standard
|
|
ARMY cadets have been hard at work planting trees on a
former Sleaford landfill site.
Cadets from Sleaford & Ruskington detachment put their backs
into it at Mareham Pastures, where they helped plant a
number of hawthorn trees. They joined the British Trust for
Conservation Volunteers at the site, off Mareham Lane, which
is to become a haven for wildlife as well as a place for
young and old to enjoy.
Possibilities for the site include information boards, a
children's play area and the creation of woodland and it is
hoped the Sleaford area community, including youth groups
will be involved as much as possible.
| Sergeant instructor of Sleaford Cadets Nick Watson, who is also a member of the Friends of Mareham Pastures, said: "The cadets were really looking forward to getting involved, especially as community projects are an important element of what they do. It was great for us to take part in this exciting project, which we hope will become a valuable asset to the town." |
The project is being spearheaded by Lincolnshire County
Council and the trees were donated by its landscape
conservation scheme.
